Aviary Birds in Colour

By Frank Woolham

Synopsis

Aviary Birds in Colour is exceptional among bird books for the magnificent quality of colour photographs by Dennis Avon and Tony Tilford. They are the fruit of high technical skill and long hours of painstaking work. Their excellence was widely acclaimed when they were featured in a major Kodak Exhibition in London. The selection of birds has been supervised by the Curator of Birds at the London Zoo, Mr Peter Olney, who has written the Foreword.
The text by Frank Woolham, former staffman with one of Britain's premier zoological gardens and an aviculturist for nearly thirty years, splendidly complements the colour photographs and gives a description of each species, general management, feeding and breeding.
Dennis Avon is a specialist in sophisticated colour printing methods and lectures in photography. Tony Tilford, a specialist in Educational Technology, is on the Council of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, and an active member of the British Trust for Ornithology.
At a time when conservation is the concern of many people, this book emphasises the contribution of the aviculturist in ensuring that wild bird species survive despite the many threats to their existence.
Aviary Birds in Colour is a worthy companion to Blandford's award-winning Birds of Britain and Europe in Colour, the standard two-volume Handbook of Foreign Birds, Wildfowl of the World, and many other bird books.
