This collection crosses the barriers of geographical and cultural backgrounds by bringing together short plays from around the world. Four of the seven plays are local and contemporary, highlighting southern Africa's rich theatrical tradition.
Malan deftly juxtaposes humorous plays with more serious ones. Each play is followed by thought-provoking notes which discuss the play's themes and offer practical advice on staging the play.
Robin Malan is well known for his highly successful literature anthologies for secondary pupils. These include New Outridings. New Inscapes, and New Beginnings. He taught English and drama at Cape Town High School, he was Artistic Director of theatre-in-education companies in Cape Town and Pretoria and was Assistant Head of Waterford Kamhlaba College in Swaziland.
