This book is a pictorial survey of many of the world's great land mammals. It is a global overview of major species that are particularly characteristic of their given regions. The book is organized by continent because individual spe-cies of land mammals tend to both define, and be defined by, these land masses. In some cases, such as that of the marsupials of Australia, cer-tain mammals are solely indigenous to a specific continent, although in other cases, such as those of foxes and mice, nearly identical species are common to several continents.
