Ernest Hemingway
By Roberto Fuentes
Synopsis
Ernest Hemingway's life was as romantic and exciting as anything he wrote into his novels and stories. This magnificently illustrated volume captures Hemingway's glamorous life and times between 1939 and 1960, as recalled by his good friend, Norberto Fuentes. The book's vivid, black-and-white photographs, taken by another of his good friends, Roberto Herrera Sotolongo, candidly show Hemingway on African safaris, in Venice with his wife Mary Welsh, fishing for mar-lin in the Gulf Stream, having good times at his favorite cafes, and relaxing at his homes in Cuba, Key West, and Idaho. Still other wonderfully informal photos show Hemingway on movie locations-for instance with Spencer Tracy during the filming of The Old Man and the Sea, and with Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman dur-ing filming of For Whom the Bell Tolls. Sotolongo's more than 150 memorable black-and-white photos of Hemingway and friends at work and at play have never appeared anywhere until the publication of this book. The additional 50 full-color photos were taken more recently, and cap-ture the ambience of Hemingway's several homes.
