For all his anonymity and unworldliness, to both men Lander is a danger. He has seen their crime syndicater's plane land and take off at night at a nearby airstrip He must be removed.
As Lander and Taffy hunt crocodiles together, absorbed in a growing mutual attraction, they are unaware of the threat awaiting them back at the camp. Finally the tension cracks and Lander's destiny confronts him in a scene of cold savagery among the hidden dangers of the water's edge.
