A Flight of Chariots
By Jon Cleary
Synopsis
The Russian MIGs were boring down from above: Matt watched them come in, his head turned away from Duke, tension stretching his body like bones that had suddenly grown too big for the flesh. He was afraid because he was helpless. All he could hear was the imacined sound of the Russians as they screamed towards him, wing-tip to wing-tip, like two arrows fired from one bow.
Suddenly he felt the plane lift, swing- ing up and towards the Russians. For a moment he couldn't believe it. Then he let out a vell, a cry of fear and fare- well, swinging his head, not wanting to be facing death as it hit him.
For a split second he stared into the masked face of Duke and saw the wild look in the dark eyes...
