The Stone of Light Nefer the Silent
By Christian Jacq
Synopsis
For five centuries, from 1550 BC to 1070 BC, a handful of craftsmen guarded some of the most precious secrets of the Pharaohs in a mysterious village called The Place of Truth. The most fabulous of these was the Stone of Light... a stone that could transform barley into gold and matter into light.
In the last years of Ramses' reign, Mehy, an ambitious Theban officer, is obsessed with The Place of Truth. Prowling around in the precipitous hills towering above the village, he sees a fabulous stone that carries within itself the secret of light. Mesmerised, he decides to seize it at whatever cost, and so become master over all Egypt.
Inside the village, Nefer is in despair. To take his rightful place amongst the artisans, he must hear the call of the gods. But he has heard nothing, so he decides to travel across Egypt.
In the course of his journey, Nefer meets Ubekhet, a wise and beautiful young woman. And he finds a new friend Ardent, who saves his life. Together these three must thwart Mehy and his gang, who will not hesitate to commit the basest acts in their search for power.
Using a cast of characters plucked from the history books, Christian Jacq has brought Ancient Egypt and The Place of Truth to vibrant life.
