Mysticism
By F.C. Happold
Synopsis
Mysticism is concerned with spiritual knowledge-the knowledge of truths we cannot-understand with our minds. Mest books on mysticiam are difficult to follow witnout acqusinlance with the writings of the mystics themselves, and the latter are hard to come by and too extensive for the ordinary reader.
This book offers an original and effective sctution of the difficulty. in it the author has combined both a study of mysticiem, which makes its own contribution to the literature of the subject, and an anthology of mystical writings. Covering a wider field than previous selections, this anthology has been compiled to illustrats and complement the study. Its thirty-one sections (each with an introdustory note) are taken frem the work not only of Christian mystics, but also from the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, from Plato and Plotinus, and from the Sufi mystics of Islam.
In effect this forms a very simple and complete introduction to the vast range of mystical thought and speculation.
